Depaul Kharkiv in Ukraine since 2007
Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, close to the border with Russia, is the second largest city after the capital Kiev. Since 2007 Depaul Kharkiv has worked with upwards of 500 street children, who are either living on the city streets, or who have previously been sleeping rough but have been rounded up and sent to state provision in orphanages and hostels. Most families have to survive on less than $2 a day, and there are estimated to be as many as 250,000 people sleeping rough in Ukraine.
